Reef BoardRiders
When Ron and I were living in the corner house, we were approached by a few members of the Reef Boardriders, who asked us if we would be interested to help develop the club into a force to be reckoned with.
Ron Roozen, Mick Marchant, Chris Wells and I all agreed and within a few short months, we formed a committee of which I became President and we set up a whole new format, totally professional in every way.
That club had some of the best young surfers on the coast. Johnny Clatworthy, Kelly Pritchard, Ian Mulligan, Robbie White, Malcolm Luke and kneeboarder Phil Chadwick to name a few.
They were also the nicest bunch of guys that you could meet. Always there for one another and backed each other up no matter what.
One thing the Reefers have that no other club in Australia has is a surf break named after them. The left hander that breaks into the rocks at Gunnamatta 2nd Car Park is called “Addicts’. They dominated that break in the late ‘70s to early ‘80s and the name still stands to this day.
